What Is a Step-Up SIP?
A Step-Up SIP is a systematic investment plan in which the investor increases the monthly SIP amount periodically, usually once every year. Instead of keeping the SIP amount fixed, you can increase it according to your income growth and financial goals.
For example, if your initial SIP is ₹5,000 per month and you choose a 10% annual step-up, the SIP can increase to ₹5,500 per month in the second year, ₹6,050 in the third year, and so on.

Example of Step-Up SIP
Suppose you start with a ₹5,000 monthly SIP and choose a 10% annual step-up. Your monthly contribution increases every year.
| Year | Monthly SIP | Annual Investment |
|---|---|---|
| Year 1 | ₹5,000 | ₹60,000 |
| Year 2 | ₹5,500 | ₹66,000 |
| Year 3 | ₹6,050 | ₹72,600 |
| Year 4 | ₹6,655 | ₹79,860 |
| Year 5 | ₹7,320.50 | ₹87,846 |
SIP Formula
The estimated SIP future value can be calculated using the standard monthly compounding approach. For a regular SIP, each monthly contribution is assumed to earn returns based on the selected expected annual return rate.
For Step-Up SIP, the monthly contribution is increased by the selected annual step-up percentage at the beginning of each new investment year. The calculator then calculates the estimated future value of each contribution separately.
Regular SIP vs Step-Up SIP
In a regular SIP, your monthly investment remains the same throughout the investment period. In a Step-Up SIP, your contribution increases every year according to the percentage you choose.
A Step-Up SIP can result in a significantly higher final investment value because you invest more money over time. However, the increased investment also means you need to be financially capable of maintaining the higher SIP amount in future years.
